If you are looking for one of the "coolest" cafes in Penang, then you will need to pay Ice Cafe Penang a visit. Situated along Victoria Street in Georgetown, it is not only a cafe serving cold "chilling" desserts but also a place for you to cool off thanks to its icy room temperature. Yes! This eatery is aptly named Ice Cafe because you can enjoy your food in a freezing, cold ambience. It is also the very first ice-themed cafe in Malaysia!
For the uninitiated, Ice Cafe Penang is located on the 1st Floor of a building which is a stone's throw away from The Canteen-China House. That means you have to take a flight of steps before you could feel the drop in temperature. The moment you arrived at the doorstep, you will be greeted by a fantasy-like entrance. Push the door open and you are now in an icy, magical place that appears to be the craft of Elsa. We didn't see the Ice Princess though. 😂
Are you ready to step into a Winter Wonderland?
It is evident that we visited Ice Cafe Penang for its "icy" interior and to experience dining in a "freezing" cafe. We visited the cafe around evening time and it was indeed quite cold, probably around 20℃ with all the air conditioners blowing at full blast. Thankfully, we were the only ones and hence had the whole winter wonderland to ourselves.
Ice Cafe Penang looks like an Ice Castle!
We need to find an even "colder" spot 😋
After admiring the wintry cafe for a moment, we started to order our desserts. Judging from the menu, Ice Cafe Penang does sell mouth-watering seafood. Unfortunately, we were only there for appetizers before heading to Chulia Street for local street food. After scrutinizing the menu for desserts, we made up our mind to try their Bubble Waffle With Ice Cream and Cream Puff With Ice Cream. We should indulge in cold food right to match the theme of our cafe. Ha 😁
You can find a life-size Igloo and a few polar bears in Ice Cafe
Jordan and Jasmine could not get enough of the Igloo
Say Hi to the polar bears 🙋
In no time, we began to explore this Ice Castle. Our kids have a fun time getting in and out of the huge igloo which looks like the real thing. Standing next to the igloo were a few adorable, furry polar bears. We then checked out a big room filled with icy furniture and of course lots of Christmas trees. The Ice Bed and bathtub were really cold to touch. And there were even cubes of "ice" filling the tub for those who want a chilling dip. Ouh! There was a fireplace but no sparks were flying. Indeed we had a lot of fun and took many pictures in this amazing Ice Cafe Penang. 😊

What is in this cage?
There's even a fireplace!
It's really cold *shivering*
Who wants to take an iced bath?
Soon, our desserts made their way to our table. Up first was the Bubble Waffle With Ice Cream (RM24). I love the waffles which were crispy and thanks to the ice cream and chocolate Hershey syrup, the whole plate of dessert was truly dainty and delicious. Though I am not a "fruity" person, I thought the Kiwi slices, strawberry, Attap Chee, and red beans truly complement the scoops of ice cream and bubble waffles.

Cream Puff with Ice Cream
Who wants some sweet treats?
Up next was our Cream Puff With Ice Cream. Instead of waffles, cute cream puffs were the main attractions together with a few sticks of chocolatey love letters as well as 2 scoops of ice cream. This time around fragrant caramel was used to garnish our dessert, complete with (again) Kiwi slices, strawberry, Attap Chee and a few red beans. Both our desserts were equally enjoyable and pleasantly sweet. I bet being in a cold, freezing room did help to elevate its texture and taste huh!

Ice Cafe Seafood Menu
Hopefully, we could return to try their seafood.
All in all, my whole family enjoyed the desserts and definitely had an awesome time exploring this beautiful Winter Wonderland. We hope that we could return one day to try out their seafood platter as well as other icy desserts. Some say that the price is a bit expensive but I guess it is justified as you need a lot of electricity to maintain this Frozen Kingdom right? Those who love to take Instagrammable photos should really pay Ice Cafe Penang a visit. You will have lots of fun here. At least I know we did. So if you plan to visit Penang, Ice Cafe is definitely a must-visit for you and your family. 😋
