We Malaccans truly love our very own Taman Botanikal Melaka. After all it is our biggest playground to rest and relax for free. Yupe! There is no admission ticket or whatsoever. Previously, it was fondly known as Hutan Rekreasi Melaka but has been changed to Taman Botanikal Melaka for better appeal and probably branding. I mean the thought of jogging or playing in a hutan (jungle) can be risky, no? I believe people will feel more comfortable in a taman (Garden), right?
What Can You Do In Taman Botanikal Melaka?
For starters, most of the people who visit Taman Botanikal Melaka went there for the sole purpose of jogging or brisk-walking. So don't be surprised if you see many people in this forest as everyone is actually enjoying themselves while being close to nature. In fact, that's the main reason why my family and I love going to this garden in the first place. In fact there is a dedicated 10,000 steps trail for you to follow if you want to make good use of your pedometer app.
Jogging and Brisk Walking
Many people really love being in this Taman Botanikal Melaka as they want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In this forest, all you could are the sounds of nature: birds chirping, monkeys babbling and green leaves rustling just to name a few. You will definitely appreciate the symphony that Mother Nature is playing for you. So you can say that a lot of people find that jogging in this forest is rather therapeutic.
The road not taken?
You Can Move Faster On Wheels
With towering trees sheltering you from scorching sun, you can enjoy every bit of the time you spent inside the forest. Besides jogging and brisk walking, some opt to move around on wheels. You could rent a bicycle or bring your own to ride around in the forest. I would highly recommend the latter as the bicycles that they have for you leave a lot to be desired. There are also electric buggies for rent but I have never seen anyone taken up that offer before.
Mommy making sure they are always OK!
Exercise Equipment To Stay Fit
Another interesting feature I like about Taman Botanikal Melaka is its exercise equipment. Scattered around the forest in different stations, visitors get to use the free exercise equipment to exercise a bit. They are well-maintained or perhaps still relatively new, so you can use the equipment safely while doing sit up or some stretching. Those who do not want to hit the gym can choose to keep fit or get ripped in this most-visited forest in Melaka.
These pictures were taken years ago 😂
Fables and its backstory
Dinosaurs and Fables For Children
Interestingly, you can find a Jurassic Park in this Taman Botanikal Melaka with huge statues of dinosaurs roaming around freely. OK! No they are stationary, don't worry. Parents can also teach their children a bit about some interesting fables such as the Crow & the Pitcher, The Mousedeer & The Crocodiles just to name a few. Apparently the authority had done a bit of touch up on these statues and applied fresh coat of paint to make them look more beautiful. Kudos!
The site I used to pitch my tent *nostalgic*
We would want to join this Skytrex Adventure one day!
Camping & Skytrex
One of my many fond memories about Taman Botanikal Melaka would be my camping trips in this jungle. Honestly I have had so many priceless experience staying in this magical forest. We pitched our own tents and cooked our own food while trekking across the jungle. Of course you can choose to stay in the available chalets aka Forestay KMB. Apart from camping, those who love extreme sports will be happy to note that Skytrex is available here, spanning across the whole forest. After our Flight of the Colugo experience in Zip-lining, we would really want to join this Skytrex Adventure in Melaka one day.
Let's hug trees!
We even planted our own trees!
After completing our 14.4KM Rainforest Run!
Rainforest Run & Badminton
One of the most memorable experiences in Taman Botanikal Melaka was when we participated in The Rainforest Run 2019. It was a grueling 14.4KM run with maze, puzzles and Fear-Factor challenges for us to test our limits. I am glad that both Jordan and Jasmine could complete the 10KM run and obtained their respective medals. We even planted 2 trees of our own in this jungle. So in other words, we do feel that Taman Botanikal Melaka is like another home of ours. Sometimes besides jogging, we will also play badminton together in this beautiful forest.
Stand among the towering trees
All in all, I am pretty sure that there are plenty more that one can do in Taman Botanikal Melaka apart from the ones that I have listed here. Of course you could simply enjoy the forest bathing experience while soaking in the negative ions all around you. By the way, parking is totally free here. So if you happen to be in Melaka and have no idea what to do, why don't you pay Taman Botanikal Melaka a visit. It can be a huge playground for you as well.
