If you are looking for a hotel in Melaka that can serve you lip-smacking food, then you really need to book your stay at Bayview Hotel Melaka. Instead of going to a nearby eatery for our dinner, we decided to to dine inside the hotel itself. After reading countless glowing reviews about the scrumptious food being served in Southern Court Chinese Restaurant, my wife suggested that we give it a try. It turned out to be a wise choice for our tummies indeed.
Dinner At Southern Court Chinese Restaurant of Bayview Hotel Melaka
For the uninitiated, the Southern Court Chinese Restaurant in Bayview Hotel Melaka serves authentic Szechuan and Cantonese cuisines. That's right! So if you are craving genuine Szechuan and Cantonese dishes in Melaka, you really need to head over to this famous restaurant. It had been a while since we last dined in a restaurant which dishes out oriental food. We were there quite early after our swimming sessions, making us extremely hungry. I am sure this lovely restaurant is included in the top list of online ordering for restaurants in Melaka.
Southern Court Chinese Restaurant follows the required SOP
No meal will be complete without coffee
Upon arrival, we were immediately in awe of the restaurant's classic and yet luxurious decorations. The courteous waiter immediately ushered us to our preferred table and even handed each of us a plastic packet to store our mask. All in all we ordered 5 different dishes to savour. I must say that the intricate wood carvings and the whimsical Chinese instrumental music in the Southern Court Chinese Restaurant really set us in the mood for our dinner. Yours truly me loved the sight of the traditional wooden chairs which made me reminisce about the good old days in my late grandmother's house.
Shark "fin" soup was our appetizer
As we were one of the earliest patrons in Southern Court Chinese Restaurant, the chef could attend to us first and in no time, our mouth-watering dinner was served. It pays to be early. 😄 First to land on our dining table was a huge bowl of "Shark Fin Soup". Ok! Do not be alarmed. No sharks were finned and harmed to prepare this delicacy. Instead we were served the so-called artificial (or imitation) shark fin soup as appetizer. I could not tell how close it tasted compared to the real shark fin soup as I have not had any for decades. Still, the scrumptious broth together with the ingredients inside really whetted our appetite.
Up next was mixed vegetables with tofu. Though the dish might look simple, I love how flavourful it was together with the thick, savory sauce which really went well with our white rice. Another plate of stir-fried mixed vegetables was next on our list. The combination of long beans, ladies fingers, onions, brinjal and sliced chili was really bursting with flavours in my mouth. I could vividly scent the unmistakable Wok Hei fragrance in the dish which brought back fond memories of home-cooked food by my old folks.
The fried chickens were crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside
Jordan and Jasmine really got excited when they saw the next platter on the table-fried chickens. Obviously these deep-fried chickens were so irresistibly enticing for both of them. I guess no one could fend of the temptation of well-marinated chicken deep-fried to golden crisp perfection right? They were really delectable; Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The moment you sink your teeth into these succulent fried chickens, you could not help but want more! Yes~it will be that insatiable!
Chili Crab with mantou
Last but not least was the highlight of our dinner at Southern Court Chinese Restaurant. In fact I insisted that we try this cuisine which was highly recommended. Introducing the exquisite Chili Crab with Mantou. Honestly I had never sampled anything quite like this. The luscious chili-coated crab meat together with the distinctive mantou was really rich and scrumptious. OMG! This dish was really lip -smacking! It was so good that I almost ordered another one. I am glad that we did try this signature dish of Chef Sum.
Let's enjoy our feast at Southern Court Chinese Restaurant
All in all, we had a feast at this renowned Southern Court Chinese Restaurant. So if you are staying in Bayview Hotel Melaka, I highly recommend that you pay their in-house Chinese restaurant a visit and try their authentic Szechuan and Cantonese dishes. And don't forget the Chili Crab with Mantou. LOL 😁 It is definitely one of the best rated Halal Chinese restaurants in Melaka. I am looking forward to my next visit for another round of dinner.
