After six years of work, the Dutch EV firm Lightyear has unveiled the world's first production-ready solar car, the "Lightyear 0" sedan. Yes, this Lightyear Car is the World's first commercial solar electric vehicle. Five square metres (16.4 feet) of highly-efficient solar cells fitted on the bonnet and roof of the vehicle provide up to 43 additional miles of the daily range.

What sets the Lightyear Car from other electric vehicles on the market is the availability of solar panels. Under ideal conditions, according to Lightyear Car company, a driver with a short daily commute may theoretically drive for up to seven months without plugging in. With prices of fuel or gas increasing exponentially, this car will be saving you lots of money.

Lightyear Car is Fitted With  Five Square Metres of Solar Panels

Lightyear car uses vegan leather, recycled carbon and palm wood for the interior and trimming. Aluminium and residual carbon fibre are utilised for the making of the chassis and frame. Hence, the Lightyear Car is not only environmentally friendly but also relatively lightweight. Additional features include four in-wheel engines and a drag coefficient of less than 0.19, making it the most aerodynamic passenger automobile in the world.

Despite the benefits, compared to popular offers from prominent EV manufacturers such as Tesla, the Lightyear Car is in no way a speed demon. With just 170 horsepower and 100mph of top speeds, it is mainly for your daily commute and not for speeding, of course. The Lightyear Car is optimised for efficiency, boasting a range of 388 miles without accounting for the additional boost provided by the integrated solar panels.

Lightyear Car Has a Top Speed of 100mph

The first test real-world drives of Lightyear's first electric vehicle will take place in July, with commercial production set for this September. The first batch of Lightyear Car will be delivered by the end of the year 2022. The initial run of 946 vehicles will be priced at approximately $263,000 USD, (RM1,156,499).
