After planting our whole lawn with carpet grass, we decided to beautify it further with a few more trees. We have always wanted to have feng shui plants for wealth, health and luck and so we have chosen to plant Podocarpus Macrophyllus aka known as the Chinese Feng Shui plant. I have always been a big fan of this plant which can really elevate the stature and presence of a house.
Planting Podocarpus Macrophyllus 羅漢松 (luóhàn sōng)
Our trees are here!
As our new home has more space, we wanted to plant something bigger and taller; Something that could be the spiritual pillar of our home. Hence, we have selected this Podocarpus Macrophyllus plant which is also known as 羅漢松 (luóhàn sōng) in mandarin. Do you know that its other common names include Fern Pine, Plum Pine or even Buddhist Pine? I don't mind calling it the Buddhist Pine though. 😁
Digging Holes To Plant Our Trees
Halfway there! 😂
It had to be 4 feet deep to support our 12-feet tree!
I had asked several nurseries in Melaka about the price of Podocarpus Macrophyllus and they all told me that a typical 11-feet 羅漢松 (luóhàn sōng) will cost us at least RM2,000-RM5,000 depending on the height (age) and the "shape" of the tree. A nursery even wanted me to pay an extra RM400 for the cost of transportation and planting. Finally, I managed to find one beautiful 12-feet Buddhist Pine for RM850 including the transportation cost. A great deal indeed, right?
Behold our 12-feet Buddhist Pine Tree
It cost us around RM850 only!
Some of you must be wondering why planting a Podocarpus Macrophyllus 羅漢松 (luóhàn sōng) tree instead of other trees? Firstly, the shedding of leaves is virtually non-existence. Besides the absence of non-invasive roots, the Buddhist Pine is a slow grower. If you are looking for a tree with pliable branches, then you really need to consider getting this for your garden. Of course, the Buddhist Pine is definitely a stunning tree that will make your home look more beautiful and elegant.
Really Love Our Feng Shui Tree
Perfect combo = Buddhist Pine + Christmas Tree
Knowing that the Podocarpus Macrophyllus is also known as the Buddhist Pine, I bought a beautiful sitting Buddha statue to be placed underneath our beautiful tree. I thought both the tree and the Sitting Buddha Statue (US$9) really complement each other, giving us that soothing, zen feeling. Besides, I had also purchased a solar-powered Japanese-style Decorative Lamp (US$30) to be added right next to our Buddha statue, further infusing the whole space with that tranquillizing ambience. Yes, it will light up at night. 😙

Besides the beautiful pine tree, we had also invested in an adorable Christmas tree with a price tag of RM180. As we are big fans of Christmas celebrations (we are not Christians though), we thought planting a Christmas tree will be ideal as we could decorate it with ornaments in the future. Or perhaps its presence will add that much-needed greenery to our home.
Even coffee tastes better now!
As the saying goes, nothing worthwhile comes easily and the same applies to both our trees. Before we could plant our 羅漢松 (luóhàn sōng) or Christmas tree, we needed to dig two huge and deep holes for them. For our 羅漢松 (luóhàn sōng), the hole that we had dug had a width of 3x3-feet with a depth of 4 feet. On the other hand, we dug a hole with a diameter of 2 feet with a depth of 2 feet for our Christmas tree. It took my father and I at least 5 hours to dig both holes to prepare for the arrival of our trees the next day.
Our Family's Spiritual Trees
Please bless and protect our family. 😘
The next day, 3 workers arrived with our trees and they helped us to transport and plant our trees at no extra cost. It was not easy to lift or drag the trees into their respective holes but everything went smoothly eventually. Now we are happily enjoying our coffee while looking at our beautiful Podocarpus Macrophyllus aka Buddhist Pine together with our Christmas tree. With the Chinese Feng Shui plant plus the tree that Santa loves, our home now feels even more comfortable and prosperous. Ha 😁
Your garden is coming up beautifully, kudos to your dad for a job well done!
ReplyDeleteYupe! My dad deserves all the credits as he helps me out a lot. :)
DeleteBoth trees are beautiful! Wow, both you and your father must have a good workout digging the two holes for the tree. And also have a closer relationship with your father.
