The brand new Casio G-Shock DW H5600 Hybrid Smartwatch has arrived. It is available in 3 different models and is equipped with solar charging.

With smartwatches slowly replacing the traditional watches that used to be dominant on our wrists, I am glad that Casio has attempted to transform their watches, making them "smarter" as well. One such Casio smartwatch is the Casio G-Shock DW H5600. Casio Malaysia has recently announced on its website that its latest hybrid smartwatch, the G-Shock G-SQUAD DW-H5600.

This new hybrid smartwatch from Casio had landed on our Malaysian shores. As you may recall, the collection is a special modernised update to the classic G-Shock DW-5600 model, incorporating numerous cutting-edge technologies such as an integrated heart rate sensor and more. If you a big fan of the Casio G-Shock but want something more sophisticated and modern, then this hybrid watch is for you.

The Casio G-Shock DW H5600 Hybrid Smartwatch has the same style as the watch that it was based on, but there are some changes to make room for the new smart features that it has. First of all, it has a new mono MIP LCD screen with an LED backlight and an updated interface with power, heart rate, and message indicators. Also new is a back plate made of stainless steel with a charging port, optical health tracking sensors driven by the world-renowned Polar, a built-in rechargeable battery, and support for solar charging.

Designed Based on the Original Casio G-Shock DWH5600

Available in three distinct models, each of the Casio G-Shock DW H5600 will sport a unique finish. One of these models will be a limited special edition release. The first model in the set is the DW-H5600-1, which comes with the trademark shock-resistant resin body of the brand in a single black colour. In contrast, the DW-H5600MB comes with a stainless steel bezel and is offered in both black and blue colour options.

1. Casio G-Shock DW H5600-1 Hybrid Smartwatch

The final hybrid smartwatch of the Casio G-Shock DW H5600 series is the DW-H5600EX-1. It sports an identical build as the previous model but has drafting line patterns throughout its body and straps. Casio claims that these patterns were inspired by the technical drawings for the DW-5000C, the very first G-Shock watch. That's a very good reason to get your hands on this third model, no?

2. Casio G-Shock DW H5600MB-1 Hybrid Smartwatch

All three Casio G-Shock DW-H5600 models are equipped with four activity tracking features: running, walking, gym workout, and interval timer. They also have several health monitoring features, such as heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, step count, and calorie intake. Even though it can link to smartphones via Bluetooth, keep in mind that it only supports simple watch settings, automatic time and distance correction, phone finder functionality and world time. That means messages that come in only show a notification, not a snippet of text.

3. Casio G-Shock DW H5600EX-1 Hybrid Smartwatch

Casio claims the G-Shock DW H5600 hybrid smartwatch has a battery life of up to 35 hours with the heart rate monitor activated. This is really a bummer if you ask me. With heart rate monitoring turned off, the battery could stretch to one month and you will get a whopping 11 months of battery juice in Power Saving mode. It is a shame that its heart rate tracker drains so much battery. I wish this "flaw" could be improved in the future.

Can Be Charged Using Solar Power

Interestingly, Casio G-Shock DW H5600 Hybrid Smartwatch has solar charging capabilities, but it should be noted that this is merely a secondary charging method intended for minor top-ups. Still, it is a very novel add-on to a smartwatch. In fact, more smartwatches should have this solar charging ability. When connected to the proprietary cable, it is estimated that the hybrid smartwatch takes approximately three hours to fully charge.

All three versions of the new Casio G-Shock DW H5600 Hybrid Smartwatch are now available in Malaysia through the official Casio online shop and authorised distributors all over the country. The normal Casio G-Shock DW H5600-1 model will come with a price tag of RM1,345, the DW H5600MB model will cost RM1,395, and the special edition Casio G-Shock DW H5600EX-1 model will be the most expensive with a price tag of RM1,995.
