Malaysia is struck with yet another tragic news of Taman Bukit Permai Ampang landslide which has claimed four lives. Yesterday evening, a landslide at Taman Bukit Permai, Ampang near here claimed four lives, while another victim survived with minor injuries. The disaster also damaged 15 houses and 10 vehicles.

The search and rescue operation for the five casualties began immediately when nine firefighters from the Pandan Fire and Rescue station responded to a distress call at 5.54 p.m. At 6.54 p.m., the first victim, an 84-year-old male, was extracted. He survived with minor injuries, but his wife was discovered dead at 7.53 p.m. and her corpse removed at 9.15 p.m. At 10.58 p.m., approximately an hour and a half later, the body of the third victim, a male resident, was extricated from the debris.

At 2 a.m., Ampang Jaya district police commander ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak announced that rescuers had discovered the bodies of the final two fatalities, both males, one of which was a Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd employee (Air Selangor). Their bodies were discovered around 12.46 a.m. and 1.59 a.m. This morning, the body of the fourth victim of the Taman Bukit Permai 2 landslide in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, was discovered.

Norazam Khamis, director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said they will utilise K-9 Unit tracker dogs at the landslide site to verify there were no other victims. All of the victims transported to Ampang Hospital remain unidentified.

In the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) hall, a temporary relief centre was established for the landslide victims at Taman Mega Jaya. However, non of the residents from the affected region were reported to have moved there as of 3 a.m. Residents in the region heard a tremendous blast during the occurrence, which was caused by two landslides that occurred consecutively during heavy rain. Residents also captured the incident on camera as it unfolded.

Prior to this, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) forecasted heavy evening showers through March 14. The landslide disaster also drew the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who expressed his regret over the tragedy in a quick Facebook statement and pleaded with the people to pray for the safety of all victims. The question to be asked is-can the residents at Taman Bukit Permai Ampang still live there? Is it still safe?

  2. Most landslides in KL often happened around Ampang area. It makes me wonder whether it's the soil issue.
    It was a shock to hear this tragic news. Now the other row of houses are not safe and all had to move out too.
