Melaka To Build 47KM Undersea Railway Tunnel To Indonesia. This is certainly news to me as a citizen of Melaka. Apparently, Melaka's chief minister, Sulaiman Md Ali had announced that the state administration is looking into ideas for an underground railway tunnel across the Straits of Melaka to Dumai in Indonesia. Will this plan be feasible?

A Malaysian corporation has expressed interest in constructing the tunnel, but can only cover half of the project expenditures, according to state executive councillor Ab Rauf Yusoh. However, he claimed that the consent and approval of the Indonesian government were required for the project to be implemented. If the current Melaka government gets the green light, the undersea tunnel will take four to five years to build.

Earthquake Activities in Indonesia from 1900-2019

I believe this undersea railway tunnel will be marred by earthquakes!

So will this undersea railway tunnel come to fruition? I hope they will carry out the necessary research first. Then again, it feels rather unsafe or ill-planned to travel in an undersea tunnel to Indonesia that is well-known for earthquakes, no? I don't want to be trapped and buried in a tunnel should an earthquake destroy the expensive passage under the sea, no?
