It is claimed that Melaka will build an electric car assembly plant for Changan Automobile. This is good news indeed for fellow Malaccans as this will be Malaysia's very first electric car assembly plant. Bernama has reported that an investment amount of RM1 billion will be given to Melaka from Fieldman EV to develop our country's maiden electric car assembly plant.

A 200-hectare plot of land at the Elkay Lipat Kajang Area in Jasin has been designated to build the Changan Automobile electric car assembly plant. Local company-Fieldman EV has obtained exclusive rights from China's state-owned Changan Automobile to assemble to distribute right-hand-drive electric vehicles for our Malaysian market as well as Southeast Asia regional markets.

To the uninitiated, Fieldman EV is actually a subsidiary of Fieldman Group which started its business in the palm oil industry before diversifying its businesses to include jerrycan moulding, too packing services as well as plantations for vegetables, fruits and coffee. It is hoped that this new electric car assembly plant will proper Melaka's economy and development.

This investment will prove to be vital as Changan Automobile is a Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer. Being renowned as one of China's "Big Four" automakers, the company currently has 3 electric car models with the most popular one being the Changan BenBen E-Star EV which is ranked the number 7 best-selling electric vehicle in China last year. Fieldman EV has drafted a long term plan from 2018 until 2026 to develop this electric car assembly plant in Melaka. So far no confirmed dates have been announced yet.
