Honor Magic V has just been officially announced and it is the company's first foray into the foldable market. Honor which was a former Huawei sub-brand has unveiled their very first foldable smartphone which is similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold smartphones. The Honor Magic V features a huge folding display on the inside with a smaller external screen that is still accessible when the device is folded.

Honor Magic V-The Company's First Foldable Smartphone

The Honor Magic V sports a huge 7.9-inch internal folding display with a resolution of 2272 x 1984 and comes with an aspect ratio of 10:9 which is slightly larger than that of Samsung Z Fold 3. However, the refresh rate is only 90Hz which I thought could have been better given that it is a flagship device from the company.

When Hobor Magic V is folded, you will definitely appreciate its huge 6.45-inch display (compared to 6.2-inch for Samsung Z Fold 3) with a resolution of 2560 x 1080 and 21:9 aspect ratio. With a refresh rate of 120Hz, the front, external display will be eye candy for all your visual entertainment and gaming for sure.

Huge 7.9-inch Internal Folding Display

When Honor Magic V is in its folded form, it measures 14.3mm thick, 72.7mm wide and has a height of 160.4mm. Once you unfold the device, it will have a width of 141.1mm and a thickness of 6.7mm. Even though it sports a thinner profile when folded, the Magic V is slightly heftier compared to the Z fold. Honor CEO George Zhao has claimed that their very first foldable smartphone should be able to survive being unfolded 200,000 times which might not sound convincing enough to those who are sceptical.

Under the hood, Honor Magic V is powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, complemented by 12GB of RAM plus either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. You will be happy to note that it is 5G compatible, making it relatively future-proof. Powering the device is Honor's in-house Magic UI 6.0 software. It runs on top of Android 12 which will support the opening of multiple apps at the same time for multitasking.

For photography, the Honor Magic V sports triple 50MP sensors for the main rear camera which include a main sensor, an ultrawide camera and Honor's Spectrum Enhanced Camera. There are two 42MP selfie cameras with one integrated into the external display while the other could be found embedded in the internal folding screen.

SuperCharge Fast Charging of 66W

The Honor Magic V will be powered by a huge 4,750mAh battery that can be charged rapidly via SuperCharge at up to a staggering 66W. The company has claimed that you can get 50% of the charge in just 15 minutes which is amazingly fast. There are 3 colour options available namely silver, black and orange. Honor Magic V with 256GB of storage will come with a price tag of CNY9,999 (RM6,599) while the 512GB model will be CNY10,999 (RM7,299).
