Bukit Beruang Hiking Challenge-Our Family's First Hill

This is our first Bukit Beruang Hiking Challenge organised by T.S. Brothers Studio and Lions Club Hang Tuah Jaya. This was our family's first hiking.

This morning my family and I had decided to join the Bukit Beruang Hiking Challenge which was organised by T.S. Brothers Studio together with the Lions Club of Hang Tuah Jaya Melaka. This was our kids' very first attempt to scale a hill. Though it was quite challenging for them, they still did their best.

After waking up early today, we headed to the iconic Bukit Beruang in Melaka aka "Bear Hill" which is situated a stone's throw away from the famous MMU. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the main organiser friendly Mr. Tennyson who had helped us with our registration. After that, we were given a brief explanation of what we needed to do in this competition.

There were 4 checkpoints that we needed to visit to collect rubber bands of different colours. To make our challenge even more interesting, each of us was given an egg to protect. We were supposed to return the eggs when we have arrived at our final destination. So did we manage to guard all 4 of our eggs? Read on to find out.

Once the members of the Lions Club Hang Tuah Jaya had ensured that everything was OK, we were given the green light to embark on our hill-climbing expedition. Besides us, a lot of people have participated in this Hiking Expedition organised by T.S. Brothers Studio as well. After all, this is a great activity to stay fit and get close to mother nature. We were reminded to adhere to the SOP and maintain safe, physical distancing by the organisers who had their members roaming around to assist us.

Honestly speaking, I am glad that my family had participated in this Hill Climbing expedition. I would go as far as to say that the experience that my children have learnt this morning was really priceless. It was not easy at all for them since it was their very first experience, trying to conquer a hill. Along the way, we did slip and trip a few times. We even had to endure a few knocks here and there.

We certainly got to be closer to mother nature!

It was not a walk in the park trying to outdo this unfamiliar terrain. In fact, both Jordan and Jasmine suffered a few minor cuts and bled a little. Still, they gritted their teeth and continued to walk. It was really not easy, trying to navigate around the tricky roots, slippery grounds and the seemingly dangerous "moving" rocks. Still, our little ones soldier on and tried their best to complete their mission.

All in all, we had spent more than 2 hours in Bukit Beruang, going from one checkpoint to the other to get our rubber bands. It was very exhausting for Jordan and Jasmine but I am happy that they did not throw in the towel. In fact, my wife and I are proud to see our big babies exploring the wild together with us. Along the way, both of us had the opportunity to teach our little ones how they needed to tread carefully especially when they are in the wilderness.

Besides tutoring them about Hiking and jungle trekking, we also talk about mother nature and the importance of the "pesky" tree roots which threaten to trip us over all the time. LOL 🤣 We were lucky to stumble upon a beetle that was rolling its collected dung. We also saw many bright coloured pink mushrooms decorating the bark of a fallen tree.

This hiking activity is really meaningful for all of us. Besides allowing us to strengthen our bond, our kids also got to learn new knowledge that they would not get from their classroom or textbooks. Hence it was an eye-opening experience for our two big babies. I foresee that in the future we will be hiking more hills and mountains together as a family.

We had a rough but fun hiking experience for sure!

All in all, my wife and our 2 kids really enjoyed ourselves during this hiking of ours. Though we did not win anything, we have proven that we could outdo ourselves. Of course we broke one of eggs too when we tripped and fell. Our expedition was filled with laughter and a bit of grumbling but it was an invaluable experience for all of us. In the end, all of us are happy with our quality family time spent together.
