A Different Chinese New Year For 2021

It is a different Chinese New Year For 2021. What should be a joyous festival has become a lousy celebration for the Chinese especially the elderly.

A Different Chinese New Year For 2021

Never in my life have I imagined a different Chinese New Year just like the one that we are going through right now. It is a shame that the Covid-19 pandemic is actually worsening in our country-Malaysia. Terrible governance by the back-door Muhyiddin-led Pakatan Nasional has dragged us into a dire state. Now we can't celebrate Chinese New Year the way we should be.

We miss spending time with our extended family

Though I am not hoping it to be the way it used to be...still our Chinese New Year celebration could have been better if our inefficient government have not screwed up again and again. Now, instead of celebrating this joyous festival with our beloved family members, we need to be locked down. A lot of old people could not get to see their children and grandchildren no thanks to our government's repeated terrible decisions.

We could not really visit other people during this Chinese New Year

We were on our way to actually control and even beat the Covid-19 pandemic, but our incompetent government filled with relatively useless ministers decided to screw up our life. Ordinary Malaysians are suffering no thanks to their terrible decisions and double standard policies. And right now during this lunar new year, the Chinese could only celebrate this special festival with the people from the same household. Make no mistake that the current situation was avoidable!

Still, we will wear red coloured clothes!

It's a shame that this Chinese New Year is so different for our children.

For this year's Chinese New Year, there is virtually no house-visiting and children surely miss this tradition as they will not be getting a lot of Ang Pow red packets. Visitation is limited to those who are staying within 10KM of radius and only 2 people are allowed in the same car. Then again nobody is really going to visit anybody for fear of contracting the virus, right?

Let's take a lot of family photos during CNY

One for the album with my beloved wife!

I am glad that I am staying with my father, so I could still celebrate Chinese New Year with him. Unfortunately, my brother who is residing in KL could not return. My dad misses his eldest son a lot for sure. We could not return to my wife's hometown as well. It has been more than 1 year since we last saw him and I am sure that he misses all of us especially his grandchildren.

We are wearing matching shirts

This is grandpa's favourite photo with his grandkids 😁

Still, bygones are bygones and I do hope that the government will not worsen the already terrible situation that we are already in. How about you guys? Are you happy with this year's Chinese New Year celebration? Are you able to celebrate this important festival with your beloved ones especially your parents and grandparents? Let's hope that better days are ahead of us. By the way, happy Chinese New Year to everyone.

  2. We just stayed home...and ate...and ate...and ate. I guess this will be our new normal. Read somewhere yesterday that it is starting to get bad in Melaka? Take care there, all of you. A Blessed and Happy Year of the Ox!

    1. Yeah there are a few clusters here in Malacca. So we just have to stay indoors.

  3. Like many other families out there, I couldn't have reunion dinner with my mom and siblings this year. But we all know safety is more important for the moment and we'll defintely can reunion anytime we want after the pandemic is over.
