McDonald's or Mekdi has been in Malaysia for 38 years. In essence, you can say that Mekdi is very Malaysian. In conjunction with Malaysia Day and Hari Merdeka, Mekdi has rolled out Nasi Lemak with 3 different side dishes. Have you tried them all.
We have just celebrated our 63rd Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) and right in the heart of every Malaysian is McDonald's Malaysia or more fondly known as Mekdi. This year marks the 38th anniversary of 'McD' in our country. The very first Mekdi signage made its debut in Bukit Bintang last year (2019) and now McDonald's Malaysia is proudly showing off the 'Mekdi' signage at 16 selected restaurants across various states in our country. Yep! Mekdi is ours-it belongs to all Malaysians. 😙
This idea of localizing the brand name McDonald's was a way to thank Malaysians for their continuous support for the quick service restaurant chain since it first arrived in our country 38 years ago. So Malaysians have cast their votes to choose their preferred McDonald's restaurants across the country to bear the very Malaysian name for their favourite fast food restaurants. Let's find out which 16 McDonald's restaurants in Malaysia have been given the owner to display the iconic Mekdi signage. I am glad that one of the restaurants in Melaka made it into the list. Woohoo! 😁
The 16 selected 'Mekdi' restaurants nationwide are:
o McDonald’s Bukit Bintang
o McDonald’s Titiwangsa
o McDonald’s KLCC
o McDonald’s Putrajaya, Presint 2
o McDonald’s Kuala Selangor
o McDonald’s Greenlane, Penang
o McDonald’s Jln Gopeng, Ipoh, Perak
o McDonald’s Stulang Laut, Johor
o McDonald’s Kulai, Johor
o McDonald’s Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan
o McDonald’s Taman Buaya, Malacca
o McDonald’s Teluk Cempedak, Pahang
o McDonald’s Kota Bahru, Kelantan
o McDonald’s Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu
o McDonald’s Kuching 1, Sarawak
o McDonald’s Api-Api, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
There is no place like Mekdi for sure!
Of course we Malaysians love our food very much as well. Just in time to celebrate our Hari Merdeka and Malaysia Day, McDonald's Malaysia has also enhanced our beloved Nasi Lemak. So now you can indulge in your Nasi Lemak McD with side dishes such as Rendang Ayam, Spicy Chicken McDeluxe Cutlet or Grilled Chicken Burger (GCB) Cutlet. OMG! Being a big fan of Nasi Lemak, yours truly have tried all 3 and OMG~they were so unbelievably delicious and the sambal was truly lip-smacking! I don't know about you but my family and I just can't get enough of it. My wife and children absolutely love the new side dishes options.
OMG! Nasi Lemak~which one should I indulge in first?
Have you tried the Geng Nasi Lemak at Mekdi?
Interestingly, McDonald's has also infused local flavours into its dessert menu. Yep! You will be in for a surprise to find out that you can now enjoy the brand new McFlurry Cendol! Unfortunately, I couldn't get to try it as it is out of stock in all McD outlets in Melaka! 😓 Hopefully they will restock this dessert as soon as possible. Apart from that, you can also enjoy Corn Pie and Cendol-flavoured ice cream that will definitely put a smile on your face. I had the Cendol-flavoured sundae and it was truly scrumptious.

More often than not, we Malaysians can identify with McDonald's in almost every single aspect of our life right? This is especially true when we talk about food. It is really heart-warming to know that McDonald's menu has been localised to cater to our Malaysian taste buds with many ingredients being sourced locally. That is why we have the Nasi Lemak menu and sambal that can really whet our appetites. I guess that explains why we truly love all the food from Mekdi right?
#GengNasiLemak
McDonald's is a company that champions causes that benefits we Malaysians. One such cause is the #KitaBoleh concept which is a nationwide call by McDonald’s Malaysia in March this year – to herald the silent bravery of the frontliners who continued on their work as Malaysians stayed home during the Movement Control Order (MCO). Obviously the company cares a lot about we Malaysians and our struggle.
With over 14,000 employees in 300 restaurants across the country, McDonald’s Malaysia also prioritises talent and skills development among its assets-the valuable workforce. With plans to open 450 stores by 2025, McDonald’s Malaysia has also targeted to add 10,000 more employees to its workforce. This will allow more Malaysians to have job opportunities and career advancement options. This goes to show that the company intends to help nurture local talents and aid them in building meaningful careers.

As we are all aware, McDonald’s Malaysia is also a strong community player. The company is constantly encouraging all its restaurants nationwide to give back to local communities by organising various initiatives such as meal donations to local charities, Teacher’s Day celebrations as well as flood relief efforts. Through Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), McDonald’s Malaysia continues to support programmes that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. Another initiative close to McDonald’s heart is the ‘Back-to-School’ programme, which has benefitted 53,000 urban poor primary school children since 2017.
Don't forget to try the Nasi Lemak McD ok. 😋
Truth to be told, McDonald's Malaysia has done a lot for we Malaysians. Besides rolling out localised menu that we love, the company is also providing job opportunities as well as giving back to the society through its various meaningful charitable events. So let us do our part now and visit one of the nearest McDonald's Malaysia restaurants to help ourselves to all those glorious Nasi Lemak with its mouth-watering side dishes (Rendang Awam, Spicy Chicken McDeluxe Cutlet or Grilled Chicken Burger (GCB) Cutlet)! You really have to try them all. I know I had.
