My Experience Doing Full-fledged Live Online Teaching

My very first full-fledged live online teaching lesson was a success thanks to my very supportive colleagues and students. A lot of planning, rehearsals and coordination were involved.
My Experience Doing Full-fledged Live Online Teaching

Those who are wondering where I have been for the past week...well,  I had been really busy with my real life work. Besides the ordinary tasks that I need to accomplish on a daily basis, I had accepted the challenge to do something completely different. Into the unknown, I ventured along the Road Not Taken to test my mettle. It was truly an eye-opening experience for me! I would also thank my school for entrusting me with this important mission.

Although I have done countless online teaching lessons during the MCO, this challenge was completely different as I needed to design a lesson that that would incorporate a lot of elements. I needed to make it as informative as possible besides injecting continual doses of humour. On top of that, I should also engage with my audience who were watching live and add sessions whereby there would be prizes up for grab.

Practice Makes Perfect especially for live online teaching

During one of our many rehearsals

I guess the most challenging part was to create and curate contents that would be suitable for our target audience. I had to bear in mind that it should not be too difficult nor too dense for our viewers; Instead it should be fun, light and still very educational at the same time. Hence writing the script and arranging the sequence was a daunting but fun task that required a lot of meticulous planning and thinking. I am glad to have a team of professionals who were very supportive and patient.

Making sure that every detail was flawless

Without my colleagues, I doubt that I could pull this off. Through our brainstorming sessions and rehearsals, we got a lot of useful and helpful input to aid us in designing an excellent lesson plan.  Hats off to these unsung heroes who were behind the screen to ensure that everything went smoothly. They had truly put in a lot of efforts, committing themselves to ensure that the live session was a success.

It is time! Let's roll!

Of course I also need to thank my 2 young helpers-my students. Thank you to Wong Wei Hong and Tan San Chian. They were last-minute replacements as my original helpers could not participate as planned due to rescheduled examinations. Still, they took it as a challenge and immediately accepted my offer (plea for help 😃). I am still amazed that they did not think twice nor hesitated. I am really lucky to have such proactive students who were willing to extend their helping hands. For that, I will always be grateful.

On a more personal note, yours truly me is more than happy that I have accepted this challenge. Though I had a few sleepless nights, writing and editing the scripts as well as picking the best pictures for my slides, it was all worth it. Indeed, this is one rewarding experience that has helped me to learn a lot. It will also go down as one of my most defining moments in life, no less. This proves that in order for one to grow, we really need to step out from our comfort zone. Always remember that adversity has its advantages.

Thank you to my colleagues and students 😊

    2. Both of them wearing masks so you are safe but they are not safe from you unless they are wearing surgeon's grade surgical masks. This is in theory la cos you are very sure you don't have it so they should be safe from you. 😆
