Anxiety Is In Shawn Mendes' Blood

Shawn Mendes' In My Blood is about his personal battle against anxiety disorder. A beautiful pop ballad which tells us to confront our inner demon and rise up against it. Watch and listen to In My Blood MTV. The lyrics will blow you away!

Who would have thought that someone as successful as Shawn Mendes has anxiety disorder as well.  Yes, the song In My Blood is actually about Shawn Mendes' confession regarding his battle against anxiety. You might think that this is just another song by the handsome Canadian, right? Believe me... I thought so to. Turns out this song is in fact about his experiences with mental health disorder *gasp*. Similar to Sia's Chandelier which is about her struggle with alcoholism and drugs, In My Blood is like a more direct and open plea from Mendes about his problem!

I will honesty admit that when I listen to this song for the first time, I did not expect the voice belongs to Shawn Mendes. Maybe a little but this song is so different from his other tunes. In My Blood is definitely Shawn Mendes' most mature and relatable song to date. Unlike his other singles which are of course more catchy and cheesy, this song shows the more vulnerable part of Mendes; a part of him which is in fear and forlorn. He needs our help!

Dang! Do you feel like this too sometimes?

In My Blood has totally changed my opinion of Mendes, I mean through this song he wants to tell us that it is ok not to feel OK! He claimed that he wanted to "make something as serious as anxiety tangible where everybody can listen to it and either connect with it or understand it". Hats off to Mendes for this really comforting pop rock ballad; One which begins hollowly soft and despairing before progressing into something more uplifting and comforting. This song is for all of us who sometimes feel like we are helpless!

I particularly love how he narrates his ordeal with anxiety by pleading for help in the beginning: "Help Me, it's like the walls are caving in; Sometimes I feel like giving up; But I just can't. It isn't in my blood." The first verse itself though sounds gloomy, does have that conviction that no matter how despaired and dejected we are we should not throw in the towel. Listen to In My Blood right now from Shawn Mendes:

Shawn Mendes' "In My Blood" Lyrics

Help me, it's like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can't
It isn't in my blood

Laying on the bathroom floor, feeling nothing
I'm overwhelmed and insecure, give me something
I could take to ease my mind slowly
Just have a drink and you'll feel better
Just take her home and you'll feel better
Keep telling me that it gets better
Does it ever?

Help me, it's like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
No medicine is strong enough
Someone help me
I'm crawling in my skin
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can't
It isn't in my blood

It isn't in my blood

Looking through my phone again feeling anxious
Afraid to be alone again, I hate this
I'm trying to find a way to chill, can't breathe, oh
Is there somebody who could...

Help me, it's like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
No medicine is strong enough
Someone help me
I'm crawling in my skin
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can't
It isn't in my blood

It isn't in my blood

I need somebody now
I need somebody now
Someone to help me out
I need somebody now

Help me, it's like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can't
It isn't in my blood

It isn't in my blood
It isn't in my blood
I need somebody now
It isn't in my blood
I need somebody now
It isn't in my blood

What do you think? I believe this is one of the best lift-me-up songs to help us get on our feet again when we have fallen down. Shawn Mendes honestly exposed something "weak" about him to show that we need to face our problem instead of ignoring it. We need to first acknowledge what is troubling us no matter how embarrassing it could be. More importantly at the end of the day, it is about how we steeled our nerves to deal with our inner ghosts. Don't give up easily guys~because it isn't in our blood!
