Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal: The Return of The Bogey Team

Based on the performances of both teams, Arsenal was seen as the clear favourite for this highly anticipated match...at least on paper. At the back of their success in Germany with a deserved win over Dortmund, Arsenal which was brimming with confidence simply could not break down Manchester United's resilience at Old Trafford. Instead it was the underdog who stole their thunders and robbed them of their 3 points. Robin Van Persie rose to the occasion and rose he did to head in the winner that could prove decisive for United.

He came back to haunt Arsene Wenger!

As a Red Devil I believe that Manchester United deserved this hard-fought victory of theirs. Likewise as a football purist who enjoy the beautiful game, I would boldly say that Arsenal did not deserve to lose at all. Arsenal's second half performance at Old Trafford was a strong reminder that they can last the pace and eventually end their trophy drought! Their display of possession football, heavy pressure and entertaining passing game goes to show that they remain as the favourite to clinch the premier league crown from United.

Van Persie's 3-point header!

However the defeat at Old Traffod also exposed Arsenal's one glaring weakness. They lack a poacher (think Luiz Suarez) whose killer instinct would give them the points that they need. That is why Arsene Wenger has got to bring in reinforcement during the January transfer window. On the other hand, credits to all the United players for working their socks off. Their victory showed that United should not be written off just yet. So the Red Devils have once again proved that they are indeed Arsenal's bogey team-10 wins in 13 matches. Period.
