People say that Malacca is the place where everything started! Is it true? I am not sure but my father-in-law was really eager to visit Malacca. So a few months ago he finally had the opportunity to see Malacca with his very own eyes. My wife was seven months into her pregnancy, so my father-in-law came all the way from Taiping, Perak to see his daughter and beloved Jordan (still in mama's womb back then), and later of course we went to visit a few of the more famous tourist attractions in Malacca. Have you ever come to Malacca before?
What is so special about Malacca? To be brutally honest...I really don't have the slightest clue about Malacca until...my father-in-law said he wanted to come and visit us in Malacca. I was hard-pressed not to look like a jerky Malaccan in front of my father-in-law, so I actually did some research about Malacca. Haha :D But then...I was only scratching the surface of the whole history of Malacca. I hope Parameswara and Hang Tuah will not be angry with me. LOL :D
When my father-in-law arrived in Malacca, it was already late. Evening to be precise. He was on the road for 4 straight hours and the first thing he did was to see her daughter. My father-in-law beamed at the sight of his daughter. He is happy to know that she is in good hands (a~hem, me lar). After all of us had done with our "catching up", we went to have our dinner in Portuguese Settlement. You have gotta come to this place to dine if you visit Malacca. They say Portuguese Settlement serves the best and cheapest seafood in Malacca. How is the food here? Hmm...I am no food expert but I guess it is fair to say they are the best...at least in Malacca. Later all of us went to Jonker Street "night market".
The next morning, all of us woke up quite early...7am I guess. We had our breakfast before we continued with our "Malacca Expedition". Our journey of the began at Temple Street Malacca. Of course visited a lot of temples along the street. The weird thing is...we didn't really snap a lot of photos here. Makes me wonder why. Then we ventured into the neighboring street-Jonker Street. My father-in-law was simply amazed with what he saw. From crafts to art pieces...everything seems to intrigue him. Then we had durian cendol at one of the famous dessert shop in Jonkey. It was Dessert 88 I thing...
We walked along the road until we reached the majestic Stadhuys and red houses. Everything is of course red here. Almost all the buildings were red in color including the clock tower. We even posed with the famous fountain. :) Do you know why the clock tower was built? Then we headed towards another tourist attraction which was just a stone throw away from the RED area. It was the recently discovered...Dutch Wall? I am not sure what it is called by it was built centuries ago as a fortress to guard the entrance of the Malacca river.
In the Dutch Fotress. Canon~a~hoy!

Then we went up the hill to visit St. Paul Church on top of...well...St. Paul Hill of course. My poor pregnant wife had to tag along with while carrying our little Jordan in her tummy. :( We were on top of the hill for less than 10 minutes. Why? I will tell you later. We snapped some photos and off we went down the hill to...any idea? We finally reached the final destination of our expedition. It is a must visit for any tourist who comes to Malacca. It is none other than our Porta de Santiago aka A Famosa. Its is simply a sight to behold and it is the main reason why my father-in-law insisted to walk all the way from Temple Street to see this historic ruins!
By then it was almost 12 noon and Mr. Sun was on top of us. Later both my father-in-law and I backtracked to Temple Street to retrieve our car. Why? Because my wife could not walk any further. She was just too tired bearing little Jordan and accompanies us to visit all those historical sites. Still my wife is happy that she was with us all the time. Yeah! Wanna know why we were racing against time during the whole visit? It is because...my father-in-law needed to check out from the hotel. Haha :D That's why.
All in all, it was a great time for us to get together. My father-n-law really enjoyed his trip to Malacca. But more importantly he is happy to know that his daughter (my wife) is happy and healthy. I gotta thank my father-in-law for his willingness to travel a few hundred kilometres to visit us. Until we meet again this December. This time...I wanna snap tonnes of photos. :D
