It's that time of the year again when the days grow shorter, and the air becomes crisp with the arrival of the Winter Solstice. As I sit here, reflecting on this special occasion, I can't help but feel a sense of joy and excitement that fills the air. This year, I had the pleasure of making Tang Yuan with my beloved family – my wife, father, eldest son, and youngest daughter. We gathered around the kitchen counter, each of us eager to contribute to this cherished tradition.

In Malaysia, our Winter Solstice festivities always revolve around the traditional Tang Yuan. You can now get Tang Yuan in various colours, flavours and even size. However, our family has always preferred the age-old red and white Tang Yuang.

As we rolled the glutinous rice dough into small balls, we couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for the blessings that this vibrant hue would bring into our lives. The second batch we made was a pristine white, representing purity and new beginnings.
