Audi RS Q e-tron E2 Rally Car Unveiled

After providing the first glimpse at its design for the 2026 Formula 1 racecar, Audi has now shown the unleashed the second generation of its Audi RS Q e-Tron Rally Car. It is slated to make its premiere at the 2022 Morocco Rally this coming October. It was the first time that a manufacturer used an electric drivetrain in combination with an efficient energy converter to secure an overall victory against other conventionally powered competitors at the Dakar Rally. The original rally car was dubbed by Audi as a "test laboratory in the desert," and it was the first time that such a combination was used.

Because there are no places to pull over and plug in in the desert, the energy converter in the Audi charges the high-voltage battery whenever the vehicle is in motion and applies the brakes. The Audi e-Tron FE07 Formula E car's motor-generator units are installed in the off-road speedster's front and rear axles. By the way, its battery tips the scale at 370kg and possesses a rated capacity of 52kWh.

Hit a Top Speed of 170KM per Hour

Under the hood of this off-road speedster is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo TFSI engine, and it also has a turbocharger. It has a top speed of 170km per hour. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km in a mere 4.5 seconds. The E2 iteration of the prototype has a number of improvements, the most notable of which are revisions to the bodywork that make it more aerodynamic, more fuel-efficient, and lightweight. The cockpit has been stretched out in order to make the controls more accessible, and the front and back lids have also been chiseled away using composite materials.

A Masterpiece of Automobile

According to a statement released by the main designer of the Audi RS Q E-Tron E2, Axel Loffler, there is not a single piece of the vehicle's body that was carried over from its predecessor. "At this time, we are getting rid of the underflow of the rear hood that was located to the left and right of the B-pillars. This method helps reduce weight, and it does so in conjunction with modified lay-ups, which are optimal fabric layers of the composite materials.

The new Audi RS Q e-tron E2 is scheduled to make its first appearance at the Morocco Rally in one month, followed by the Dakar Rally in 2023.
