Chinese New Year is fast approaching and that means we will be seeing lots of decorations adorning houses and streets. Have you seen Kampung Machap Baru Chinese New Year decorations for the year 2022? Located in Alor Gajah, Melaka, this "new" village is famous for its preservation of Chinese cultures and traditions. In fact, it has been dubbed as the "Chinese New Year Village" of Melaka. You really have to visit to witness their Mei Hua Walk 梅花街 (Plum Blossom Street).
Kampung Machap Baru Chinese New Year Decorations 2022
Welcome to Mei Hua Street 梅花街
Similar to our Melaka's Christmas Town which is the well-known Portuguese Settlement, Kampung Machap Baru come to life thanks to the countless numbers of dazzling crimson red lanterns which illuminate the bustling street. When you walk along Lorong 2 which is fondly called Plum Blossom Street (梅花街), you will be greeted by many beautiful Plum Blossom trees fitted with purplish-pink LED lights to give you that magical feeling.
There are Plum Blossom Flowers Everywhere!
Beautiful blooms together with mesmerising LED lights!
Besides the synonymous red lanterns and Plum Blossom trees (not to be mistaken with Cherry Blossom), you can also admire the Chinese New Year couplets erected on both sides of the road. On these couplets read wordings full of wisdom for us to be grateful for our blessings. Interestingly, you will be seeing lots of tigers roaming on this street. Ha 😁 Don't worry they don't bite.

The whole street is so beautiful and festive!
The Kampung Machap Baru Chinese New Year Decoration for the year 2022 is really spectacular if you ask me. There are several stations or stops specially set up for you to snap those memorable photos with your loved ones or for you to show off in your social media feeds. There are two stations that are manned by stuffed Tigers. These tigers appear to be in good mood to pose photos with you, complete with makeshift trees, grass and mountains to reflect their natural habitats. LOL 😂
Lots of Tigers Would Be Ushering You
These Tigers Will Bring You Good Luck! 😉

Tigers are solitary creatures but they will get together to celebrate Chinese New Year! 😁
Beware of the "fierce" tigers in the cage! 😆
Laughing Buddha and a treasure chest were present as well to add to the unmistakable Chinese New Year vibes. Make sure you visit the unbelievably fascinating alley in the middle of Plum Blossom Street. With lots of graceful Plum Blossom flowers lighting up the lane, you cannot help but feel that you are in a movie scene. Oh! Don't forget to get up close and personal with a few caged "aggressive" Tigers as well.

Fancy a Few Jars of Wine?
Pose With The Illuminated White Bicycles
The residents there have also set up 2 stationary bicycles decked with white gleaming LEDs for you to capture your priceless Instgrammable photos. There is also a set-up with many huge jars of Chinese wine complete with a mini table and chair. Imagine indulging in fine Chinese wine while appreciating enjoying the alluring plum blossom flowers. The residents there even played Chinese New Year songs which really enlivened the festive mood. If there were no Covid-19 pandemic, perhaps they could even have a few stalls selling food and drinks, no?
Kampung Machap Baru-The Chinese New Year Village of Melaka
We will be returning next year for sure!
All in all, I am really impressed with the Kampung Machap Baru's Chinese New Year decoration this year. This is my first time here. I understand that this is actually a scaled-down version of the intended decorations. Kudos to all the residents living on Lorong 2 who have really chipped in to turn their place into a magical Chinese New Year wonderland. In fact, their decorations are really better than the ones in Melaka's shopping malls. If you want to enjoy that Chinese New Year ambience, head over to Kampung Machp Baru now!
Very nice!
ReplyDeleteYes it is. It takes the whole neighbourhood. :)
Deletenice decorations! the villagers are so enthusiastic to decorate their house compound and the neighbourhood and even let outsiders to visit for photo shooting! i guess many would not do so coz having outsiders taking picture of your house compound (or just outside at the road) is like intruding the privacy, especially at night.
ReplyDeleteI believe this neighbourhood really don't mind having visitors. They have been doing this for years just like the ones in Portuguese settlement.
DeleteI agree that the whole street was beautifully lighted up with Mei Hua flowers and lanterns with so many tigers. The festive mood is definitely there. You guys are so lucky to be able to jalan-jalan there. I went to Penang for a week's CNY and they don't have a street like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat Penang doesn't have a street like this? That's a shame.
DeleteWhat a lovely place to feel the CNY vibes! I wonder if the whole concept initiated by the kampung residents or by the authorities of Machap?
ReplyDeleteI am not entirely sure but I believe it is the residents. :)
