Happy Mid Autumn Festival 2021

Happy Mid Autumn Festival 2021. We must eat plenty of mooncakes and play with lanterns during this meaningful festival every year.
Happy Mid Autumn Festival 2021

First and foremost, Happy Mid Autumn Festival to everyone who is (still) celebrating this meaningful festival which will last for more than one day. Technically, Mid Autumn Festival was supposed to be on the 22nd of September 2021 which was on the 15th of August for the Lunar Calendar. However, like most families, we celebrate this special occasion for at least 2 weeks.

Have you finished all your mooncakes?

As long as we still have mooncakes and enough candles for our lanterns, we will be celebrating Mid Autumn Festival non-stop. Read the 2 Legends of the Mid Autumn Festival to find out why we play with lanterns and the origins of the delicious mooncakes that we love to indulge in. This year's celebration was special as we get to experience it in our brand new house.

Baby taro anyone?

Like a lot of other festivals, family members and friends will gather during this festive celebration to enjoy slices of mooncakes white chit-chatting, and catching up with each other. We had lots of mooncakes to eat as well. It is quite refreshing to be able to enjoy our mooncakes outdoors as we usually had to eat them inside our home. Still, being able to enjoy these sweet, mouth-watering mooncakes with our family members is already a reward in itself.

Let's play with lanterns 😃

After we had enjoyed our mooncakes, we played with lanterns of course. Despite the lockdown that Covid-19 has brought, we were glad that our kids could still go out and play with the colourful lanterns that have become so synonymous with our celebration. Yupe! No mid-autumn festival is complete without these lanterns and candles of different colors.

Can you guess what is the lantern I am holding? 😂

Lanterns come in different shapes, sizes, and colors and there are even electronic ones for younger children with fancy lightings and sound but we have always stuck with the more traditional lanterns so that the celebration is always more meaningful. So today is the last day before a new brand new lunar month. Maybe another round of lantern-playing?

This makes a good lantern, no?

Hopefully, next year we will be able to play lanterns normally without the need to be worried about the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Honestly speaking, it has been a really quiet celebration in our new neighborhood. Perhaps, there are not many kids around? Then again, we must make sure that this tradition of playing lanterns will go on. 😁

We will play with lanterns again next year. 😀

  1. Lovely photos of your family having fun at home. Your garden is big enough to run around with the lanterns.

I finished eating my mooncakes few moons ago.

  3. I love how close your family is. Sad that this is something rare these days, everyone is too caught up in his or her own world, so engrossed with their smartphones to care about anybody else. Keep it up, share the joy, spread the love!
