Porsche Will Be Made In Malaysia Soon

The Edge weekly newspaper has cited that soon Porsche will be made in Malaysia. It appears that the German automobile manufacturer is setting up an assembly plant for the production of their luxurious cars in Malaysia. If this is verified to be true, then it will be a boon for our country's automotive industry to give us a shot in the arm for our struggling economy. Not to mention, putting us back in the map of ideal foreign direct investment in Asia!

A subsidiary of Sime Darby Motors-Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd will be tasked to set up this exciting local partnership with Porsche. The assembly plant for the German cars will be established in Kedah. However, no dates on the construction or operations have been disclosed yet. Will this eventually materialize? Or is this yet another so-called news to test the market?

It is reported that the most likely location for the building of the factory will be in Pekan, where its parent company Volkswagen has already set up its facility. This good news will definitely be a welcome boost to our automobile industry as we are currently lagging behind our neighbours (Thailand & Indonesia) in terms of attracting lucrative investments from global automakers. Of course, more job opportunities will be created as well.

According to the Edge, Christian Weiss who is the deputy director of corporate communications for Porsche, Southeast Asia region has shown tremendous potential for the demand of luxurious cars. Hence the company is planning to examine options for further growth in this market. However, no official confirmation has been made by Porsche. So will we Malaysians be able to drive Made-in-Malaysia Porsche in the future? Perhaps we will have Fast and Furious movies being shot here as well. 😂
