The new norm is to work from home and online learning during the pandemic. It is a challenge for children and adults as well.

We are 21 days into our brand new year of 2021 and my hope that life could be normal again in Malaysia seems to be quite impossible for now. It is a shame to note that the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic has spiralled out of control and new clusters have sprouted everywhere across the country. Due to the MCO, adults need to work from home while children have to get used to online learning. My family has been doing relatively well during this pandemic which is good if you ask me. So how has it been going on for all of you?

Even though I could work from home comfortably, I personally prefer to meet people face-to-face, in the flesh. It is really kind of difficult to get your message across effectively, especially when you want to impart knowledge. Then again we don't really have other options, do we? My wife is also working from home and of course, she does not mind as she could be together with us. Glad that we could rely on our blazing-fast Internet to carry out most of our daily routines during this MCO.

Are children suffering from too much "screen time" during this pandemic?

As for our children, all their classrooms have been digitised. Teachers are using Google Meet to conduct live lessons while using Google Classroom platform to give out homework. Though both Jordan boy and Jasmine girl have seemed to get the hang of it, I know these virtual classrooms and lessons cannot be compared to the real education that they could enjoy in the school. Another downside would be the long hours that they have to look at the screens of their laptop and tablet. This will of course be detrimental to their eyesight.

Are you used to working from home already?

I personally don't like to work from home! 😂

With vaccination options on the horizon, I really hope that the current situation will be a thing in the past soon. For now, we adults have to be grateful that we could still work from home and our children have the privilege of using a laptop and tablet of their own for their online learning. All these constant connectivities of video conferencing will require high-speed Internet with unlimited bandwidth. I understand that many are not fortunate enough to have electronic gadgets and limitless Internet at their disposal. So let's count our blessings, stay safe with our family and may all of us ride out of this pandemic storm as soon as possible.

Remember to dress professionally while working from home, OK?
