Can you feel the zen vibe emanated by the decor at Miyabi Sheraton PJ?
Sushi bar and live cooking station
Alternatively you could choose Omakase dining experience at Miyabi Sheraton PJ. What is Omakase? Simply put, Omakase means "I will leave it to you (the chef)" to decide what Japanese food to cook, prepare and serve. In other words, the chef's creativity and culinary skills will come into play as he prepares the sushi. Hence I was really honoured that Chef Tetsuya Yanagida personally served me with his award-winning Omakase Sushi! It is not like everyday that you will be served fresh Sushi by a Japanese chef right?
While waiting for my dinner I happily made myself at home in Miyabi Sheraton PJ. For the uninitiated, "Miyabi" means elegance and that is really evident in the opulent and yet cozy decorations of the restaurant. I love the zen vibe that this restaurant exudes with minimalist design complemented by clean lines, natural stones and lots of woods. From the arrangement of the plates and cutlery to the well-folded napkins; Everything in Miyabi looks immaculately divine. For a moment, it feels like you are actually in Japan!
While I was admiring the rich decor, I heard someone calling, "Chris San!" I turned around and there he was, holding my first plate of authentic Japanese cuisine for that night. Chef Tetsuya Yanagida presented my appetizer-Asparagus Goma-ae which was a quick green snack to get me started on my Omakase journey for the evening. The boiled asparagus which was coated with premium sesame sauce was really fresh and crispy. Who would have thought that vegetables could be this appealing to my palate huh! Besides some green goodness, my appetizer also consisted of the mystifying Tatami Iwashi (dried Japanese baby sardines sheet) which I actually had a second look. It was rather interesting to marvel at the intricate mesh of baby sardines intertwining to form a piece of art-like kite. The texture was crunchy and piquant. Dipping it into the sesame sauce and you will get a whole different sensation in your mouth.

My next platter was the exquisite Sashimi consisting of luscious Kanpachi, Toro, Hokkaido hotate and Fuedai. I am flattered to be served by exceptional quality sashimi that were made of amberjack, tuna, scallop and red snapper. The sashimi were unbelievably fresh and savory. Every single bite felt so rich and creamy, bursting with the sashimi's very own original flavour. Honestly speaking, I had ever never tasted sashimi as fresh as the ones in Miyabi thanks to its weekly sashimi shipment. Add a bit of freshly ground wasabi to your sashimi and your taste buds will be dancing in delight! This sashimi platter is highly recommended and it will surely give you that orgasmic ASMR sensation!

Japanese Clear Soup
After enjoying my Sashimi, Chef Yanagida prepared a bowl of Japanese Clear Soup to help me get ready for my next Agemono dish. Introducing Avocado Sakura-ebi Kaki-age tempura which is a fusion between Avocado and Sakura baby shrimp. Dipping this battered and deep fried mashed avocado and cherry blossom really gave me that tingling sensation in my mouth. Despite being coated by a layer of batter, I could still taste the unmistakable buttery texture of the rich and nutty avocado. The sakura baby shrimp used in the tempura really added a different layer of savory aftertaste which made this Agemono really unique.
Chef Tetsuya Yanagida then continued to prepare my Yakimono platter while I was admiring him strutting his stuff right before my eyes. The next that I got to delight in was the Grilled Ikejime Barramundi with Kyoto Miso. This grilled big eye tuna belly with sea salt was not only very presentable, but also very titillating. It was well-seasoned and grilled to perfection, with the juice of the fish still masterfully locked inside the dainty tuna fillet. I wouldn't mind having a few more servings.
The highlight of my Omakase dining at Miyabi Sheraton PJ has got to be this showstopper-Nigiri assortment. Behold my amazing Nigiri Sushi dishes with slices of fresh Kanpachi (Amberjack), Big eye tuna belly, Chutoro tuna belly, sweet Amaebi (prawn) and Mizu-dako (Octopus). When Chef Yanagida presented my Nigiri Sushi to me, I laid it on the table and was actually awestruck by what I would be indulging in. It was not like every day I could savour such sumptuously divine Nigiri Sushi right? Every grain of the vinegary pearl rice really complemented the freshness and sweet aroma of the sashimi. They were really creamy, rich and smooth! Add some wasabi and soy sauce and you would get a whole different experience in your mouth. Goodness!

Which one of these Nigiri Sushi will you try first?
Just when I thought that my Nigiri platter was (supposedly) the last of my luxurious main course for the day, the affectionate Chef Yanagida surprised me with yet another sushi! He handed a Chopped bluefin tuna belly with leek hand roll sushi to a gleeful me *Yay!*. Well! One can never get enough of sinfully tempting authentic Japanese food right? Now I know why sushi lovers swear by bluefin tuna and vinegar pearl rice. I felt like a child again being able to eat this hand roll sushi.
Every great gastronomical journey will have an equally awesome ending. The fitting unforgettable epilogue of my breathtaking Omakase dining experience in Miyabi Sheraton PJ was the heavenly Chitose Strawberry cake and fruits. This plate of nectarious dessert really put an icing on the already incredible omakase dining experience at Miyabi Sheraton PJ! Out of the sudden, Chef Yanagi appeared right before me and gave me a few Sushi Gummy Lollipops for my children. He knew that my kids could not tag along and hence wanted me to pass these candies to my them. Top notch hospitality and unbelievable courtesy from this Japanese chef! Another brownie point for sure.
Chef Tetsuya Yanagida was very warm, funny and generous!
I had hot green tea and Cappuccino but nothing beats...
While I was enjoying my Omakase Sushi, I also ordered a bottle of artisanal Miyabi sake (rice wine). Served hot, every sip of this Miyabi sake was alluring. I particularly loved its sweet, refreshing scent with a hint of bitterness which really complemented its crisp aftertaste. An attentive waiter was constantly helping me to reheat my sake so that it would always be at the right temperature when I wanted my next sip. Hence, I highly recommend drinking sake while you are enjoying your Omakase sushi in Miyabi Sheraton PJ. It will really elevate your whole dining experience while you bask in its ethereal ambiance. Perhaps the sake made me tipsy a little bit. 😋
