One of Melaka's top tourist attractions-the Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary (MMRS) or more fondly known as Melaka's Butterfly Farm has not seen any income during this Covid-19 virus pandemic lockdown. Since 18th of March, nobody is buying the Butterfly Park Melaka tickets. This sanctuary is a must visit for Melaka Family Trip but there is absolutely zero sale of tickets for visitors, forcing the management to resort desperate measures during this challenging time.
Save Melaka's Butterfly Farm By Adopting Butterfly Pupas
So far, the management has unfortunately reduced their laboratory staff and even dispose more than 3,000 caterpillars of various butterflies as they could not afford to keep them anymore for cost-cutting measures. According to Bernama, some of the species have been bred in the sanctuary for more than a decade but these caterpillars had to be disposed internally. According to MRS Wildlife Executive Qurrantu A'in Rohaminordin, if these caterpillars were released, they might have unpredictable effects on the environment.
Established in 1991, Melaka Butterfly Farm is said to be facing massive losses amounting to RM300,000. Do you know that the Melaka Butterfly Farm is also a private zoological park which is actively researching and breeding more than 100 species of butterflies and other insects as well. For the record, the sanctuary can breed more than 200,000 butterflies every year. It is a shame if this Melaka Butterfly Farm were to be closed down.
To make sure that the business will not go bust, the management has asked the public to adopt their butterfly pupas. This attempt to put their precious butterfly chrysalises up for adoption is a necessary attempt to ensure that Melaka Butterfly Farm will not close and that beautiful butterflies will continue to spread their wings in the sanctuary.

DeleteSalute!
DeleteHandsome boy! This place sure looks a whole lot nicer than the one in Langkawi, so disappointed when I went there many years ago. So badly neglected.
ReplyDeleteYou mean the one in Langkawi is badly neglected?
DeleteEntopia Penang (formerly known as Penang Butterfly Farm) also has something similar like this. We didnt adopt at that time we visited, but got to released newly emerged butterflies and it was fun!
ReplyDeleteYeah~this is surely fun for children. :D
