By now a lot of us Malaysians are aware about the Mini EV X2 car which is going viral at the moment. Its asking price of only RM13,800 (US$3,199) has truly got out tongues wagging. Who doesn't want the option to buy another car in Malaysia at a cheaper price right? Then again as the golden rule says, wWhen something is true good to be true, it might just be the case. The Cyber Crime Alert Royal Malaysia Police Facebook Page has said that this new cute car might be a scam.
Is this for real?
Is this electric car really a scam? You will think that it is the real deal given how polished and professional the website (https://miniev.online/) looks like. The specifications of the car and the high quality photos will definitely make you think that your dream to own a cheap electric car is finally here, right? The best part is, you can choose to finance the Mini EV X2 over a period of 9 years. Wow! Take my money already.

By now a lot will be wanting to place their orders and everything looks promising until you click on their "Payment Instruction" tab which is nothing like the rest of the website. There is no secure payment option and you are only given a CIMB account name and number for you to deposit the payment. *Gasp* Even a normal E-commerce website has better payment option page, right? By now you can smell that something is really, really fishy or perhaps the business owner could not hire a proper web developer?
The lack of documentation and contact information further cast doubt over the legitimacy of this supposedly cheap Electric Car. No contact number, no address, no social media accounts, nothing except for the website to show! But wait the live chat is functioning to receive you payment proof. Here's another indication that the Mini EV X2 might be a scam-Apparently the company behind the car has yet to apply with the JPJ to obtain the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) Certificate which means that the car cannot be driven legally on the road even you are able to buy it. BAM!
If you still want to bet your money on this Mini EV X2, here's a recap of what you will be getting for RM13,800: It is a rear-wheel electric car that has a mileage of 120km that can easily be charged by using a domestic power plug (seriously?). You can get 80% of juice in just 5 hours of charging while a full complete charge will take you around 8 hours. To get from zero to 50km/h, it will take around 25 seconds. But you can also opt to purchase the "High Speed" model that can raise the speed to 80km/h.
The integrated battery is claimed that have 800 recharge cycle which is kind of "short" compared to what a Tesla could achieve (1,500). You will also be getting a full fledged digital instrument cluster, LED headlamps, reverse camera, 9-inch touch screen display and a cargo space of 850 litres. The Mini EV X2 will be available in 6 different colours. So do you think that this electric car is for real? With a price tag of only RM13,8000 this truly sounds like the deal of the century. Or is it just another scam?
