Your Internet connection is slow? No, it is not because too many people are busy streaming movies or playing online games. No, it is not because you have been hacked either! Apparently Malaysia's Internet connection is getting SLOW-crawling at a bumper-to-bumper speed *exaggerating* because of submarine cables being screwed up somewhere in the Ocean! Yep~so do not get panic, sit back and relax while a team of expert is trying to restore our Internet connectivity.
This must be you right now-WAITING forever for that website to load...
Telekom Malaysia has reported that problems have been identified on the APCN2 (Asia Pacific Cable Network 2) which is the reason why Malaysia's Internet Service is being so slow. This fault which is causing disruption has been isolated to Segment 3 of the cable system, which is situated somewhere between Chongming (China) and Lantau in Hong Kong. Makes me wonder why this is happening? Mako Sharks were feeding on these submarine cables, again? 😋

Here you can see clearly the locations of the faults in S3
Our Malaysia's Internet connection is linked directly from Kuantan to Lantau through Segment 2 of APCN 2. These disruptions are causing interruptions in connection between Malaysia and USA! A~Ha! No wonder I am having problems streaming movies on Netflix! Besides having problems accessing websites and services hosted in United States, you will also be facing disruptions while trying to access websites and services in Hong Kong. Perhaps that is why your TVB dramas are stuttering.
These are what submarine cables look like.
So what happened to our submarine cables?
Was it because sharks were feasting on these "yummy" submarine cables again?
Shark ate my Internet!
Rest assured that all the parties behind the APCN2 which includes TM has carried out concerted effort to repair the damages suffered by the submarine cables. In order to reduce the impact on us-Malaysian Internet users, TM has also carried out mitigation work to reroute traffic and optimize connections. Really? Why is my Unifi connection still seems to be pretty slow? With this ongoing Movement Control Order, we Malaysians who are trapped indoors will be relying on Internet to stay productive, healthy, happy and of course sane. So fellow Malaysians~so now you know why your Internet is SLOW! 😂
Check your Internet Speed HERE (Internet Speed Test) to find out if you should upgrade your Internet broadband plans.
For the time being, keep calm and stay sane fellow Malaysians!
