Melaka Ramada Plaza Will Be Closing Down On The 29th of June 2020 Due To Covid-19 Virus Spread

Ramada Plaza Melaka is closing down on the 30th of June 2020. Due to the Covid-19 virus, the 5-Star hotel will cease to operate come July. It is sad to note that this 5-star hotel in Melaka will be gone soon as it is the place where lots of good memories were made.

I know that this Covid-19 spread together with the economic pandemonium that it brings will drive a lot of businesses towards bankruptcy. Little did I expect that our Melaka's well-known 5-star Ramada Hotel will be shutting down as well! I am utterly flabbergasted to discover that our beloved landmark in Melaka which was formerly known as Renaisssance Melaka will cease to operate on 30th June. Are you shocked by this news?

I miss lunch buffet at Zest Restaurant

This 294-room Ramada Plaza Melaka Hotel is independently owned by MTB Sdn Bhd and run under Wyndham Hotel Group Asia  Pacific Co Ltd has notified the National Union of Hotel, Bar and Restaurant Workers of Peninsular Malaysia about its intended closure. This shows that the Covid-19 virus is really wreaking havoc in every layer of economy globally especially in the tourism and hospitality industry. Even a big, established 5-star hotel like Ramada Plaza could not withstand the ripples of the pandemic, what more little businesses.

I miss the gourmet dim sum at Long Feng

The directors of Ramada Plaza Yang Pang Chee and Yeo Pang Kheng have got this to say:

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic since January 2020 and the Movement Control Order since March 18, the hospitality industry has been extremely impacted and we are no exception. As a result of the crisis, the continued operation of the hotel is no longer viable. It is with sincere regret that we wish to inform that the owners have now decided to close the business of the hotel indefinitely."

The company will also be serving a 2-month termination notice as per collective agreement of the employers' contracts. Hence the last working day of all the Ramada Hotel employees will be on the 30th of June 2020. The company has mentioned that they will be paying out termination benefits to eligible employees. It is really a shame that Ramada Hotel will be closing after almost 40 years in operation since its inception in 1981.

I miss attending wedding dinners and working as a waiter here!

Is there any way to salvage this imminent closure of Ramada Plaza? I doubt...my family and I are really saddened by this news. After all Ramada Plaza is where we have attended countless wedding dinners and enjoyed numerous buffets together with family and colleagues; Yours truly me had even worked as waiter in Ramada Plaza for some time. If it were not because of Movement Control Order, I would dine at this Hotel for one last time (perhaps I could still do that). Hence it is really a heart-breaking news today indeed for all Malaccans. I do hope that miracles might happen, perhaps?
