Coldplay's Viva La Vida (Long Live Life)

Yesterday afternoon, I posted about the heavy rain in my place instead of the usual Music Monday entry. So my brother asked why there is no Music Monday today. Wow! Even my brother knows about my blogging "pattern" huh! Ha :D So this week, I have chosen Coldplay's Viva la Vida to be my MM. I have been listening to it very often these few days. My wife love it very much too. In fact, she's the one who started this whole craze. My wife asked me to download the MP3 so that she could upload it into her phone. So if not for her, I wouldn't have listen to this brilliant track from Coldplay.

Coldplay

I'm listening to Viva la Vida (to build up my mood for this post :p) right now. Viva la Vida means Long Live Life in English. Do you know that the title is taken from a painting by Mexican artist, Frido Kahlo? Talking about source of inspiration huh! This wonderful song is actually written by all the members of Coldplay. Talking about team work aye. Mind you, the song has both historical and religious references. For example, "I know Saint Peter won't call my name." Such a wonderful arrangement and brilliant lyric!

Is this painted by Frido Kahlo too?

Viva la Vida was released on 7th May 2008 as the second single of their fourth album (Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends). Do you know that this song has helped to propel Coldplay into their very own class? It is Coldplay's first NO.1# single and a Translantic number-one too. I thought their previous hits made it to the top too. So I was utterly wrong. This song must be a new dawn or sort for the band. Moreover do you know that Viva la Vida also won the Grammy Award for Song of The Year at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009? Amazing. No wonder this tune is so darn infectious. Let's enjoy the MTV!

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Mesmerizing right? I truly love the MTV especially the opening where a rose blooms. Very artistic I would say. The voice is vivid nd some part of it is rather soulful! :p
