The buzz was undeniable when Taco Bell announced the opening of its first outlet in Melaka at AEON Bandaraya Melaka. As a family with a keen interest in food, particularly renowned international fast-food chains, this was a moment we could not miss. So, our very first Taco Bell experience in Melaka is really a unique and unforgettable one.

Despite having passed by several Taco Bell locations in Kuala Lumpur, we had never ventured inside. The opening in our hometown Melaka provided the perfect opportunity for a culinary adventure. Interestingly, this very first Taco Bell outlet in Melaka is located just next to the very first Banana Bros outlet in Melaka at Aeon Bandaraya Melaka. Speaking about pure coincidence?

Let me set the scene: it was a typical Malaysian afternoon, and my family and I were eager for this new dining experience. Accompanying me on this journey were my wife and our two older children, Jordan and Jasmine. Although Baby Jadiel, our youngest, couldn't partake in the feast, his cheerful disposition only added to the joy of the day. We were really excited the moment we stepped into Taco Bell!

Exploring the Taco Bell Menu: Our Choices

Taco Bell’s menu offers a mix of classic items and local adaptations, ensuring that everyone can find something to suit their palate. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the dishes we tried and our impressions of each:

1. Double Taco Supreme

We began our meal with the Double Taco Supreme. This staple item is perhaps the purest embodiment of what Taco Bell is known for—seasoned ground chicken cradled in a crunchy corn shell or a soft flour tortilla. It's topped with crisp lettuce, juicy diced tomatoes, a sprinkle of cheddar cheese, and a dollop of sour cream. The bold flavours were complemented by the textures of the fresh ingredients, making it a standout choice for both newcomers and frequent patrons.

2. Double Kickin' Chicken Taco

Next up was the Double Kickin' Chicken Taco, featuring a tantalizing combination of crispy chicken strips with the signature kickin sauce. Accompanied by fresh lettuce, pico de gallo salsa, and a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheese, this taco provided the perfect balance of spice and satisfaction. It’s an ideal choice for those looking to try something beyond the usual beef offerings.

3. Grilled Stuffed Burrito

Our Mexican gastronomical journey continued with the Grilled Stuffed Burrito, a heartier option that’s bound to satisfy any appetite. The burrito combines your choice of grilled chicken or seasoned beef with warm nacho cheese sauce, crisp lettuce, and pico de gallo, elegantly wrapped in a warm tortilla. The addition of creamy ranch sauce adds a complementary flavour profile, letting each ingredient shine without overpowering the dish. Of course, we picked grilled chicken. Unfortunately, I did not capture close-up photos of this scrumptious grilled stuffed burrito 😂.

3. Chickstar

The Chickstar is Taco Bell’s inventive take on the traditional wrap. Featuring crispy chicken strips enveloped in a star-shaped tortilla, it includes fresh lettuce, warm nacho cheese sauce, and pico de gallo. The strategic design ensures a bit of everything with each bite, offering a delightful blend of flavours and textures. It’s a must-try for those who appreciate creative culinary presentations.

4. Bell Rice Bowl Ala Carte

Venturing into locally-inspired Malaysian territory, the Bell Rice Bowl Ala Carte did not disappoint. The crunchy nacho chips on the side provided a gratifying contrast, making it a fulfilling meal that caters to those seeking a fusion of international tastes with a local twist.

5. Sauces and Sides

Complementing our selections were the various Kickin’ Sauces, adding layers of flavour and customizable spice levels. The creamy jalapeño sauce was a personal favourite, adding just the right amount of heat, while the sambal sauce brought a familiar yet inspired touch to the meal. Please bear in mind that each of these Kickin's Sauces costs an extra RM2.

Ambiance and Atmosphere at Taco Bell Melaka

The overall atmosphere at Taco Bell Melaka aligns well with its reputation: modern, clean, and welcoming. The layout of the space is ideal for both quick lunches and linger-worthy dinners, making it suitable for families, groups of friends, or solo diners. The staff were attentive and efficient, contributing to a positive and seamless dining experience. I love the decorative neon lights on the walls too.
