Ketupat and Rendang Ayam For Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023

Our family had Ketupat and Rendang Ayam For Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 feast. We learnt how to make our own Ketupat. Besides rendang, we had lontong.

First and foremost, our Tekkaus team would like to wish all our fellow Muslim friends Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023. I'm sure all of you are enjoying this festival thanks to the long holiday break as well. This year, my wife decided to prepare Ketupat and Rendang Ayam for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 on the first day of this joyous holiday.

The thing about us Malaysians is that we still celebrate the festivals of our other fellow Malaysians spiritually albeit not religiously. For the uninitiated, our country is a melting pot for scrumptious cuisines of different ethnicities and we really do enjoy everyone's dishes regardless of our beliefs and religions. Case in point, our family loves to enjoy Ketupat and Rendang Ayam, especially during Hari Raya Aidilfitri. How about you guys?

Making Our Own Ketupats, Rendang Ayam

Our Sarung Ketupat and Rice Grains

Usually, our family would just purchase Ketupat and Rendang Ayam that have been prepared by other sellers. However, this year my wife decided to make the Ketupat and Rendang Ayam on our own. Thanks to the Sarung Ketupat that my colleague had given me, my family got to experience cooking these Ketupats on our own.

Let's Fill Up Our Sarung Ketupat With Rice Grain

Remember to only fill up around 55% only.

Firstly, we needed to add around half the amount of the rice grain based on the volume of each of the Sarung Ketupat. After adding rice grains into the Sarung Ketupat, we secured the Sarung Ketupat by making sure that both "loose ends" are sealed. After that, all of the Sarung Ketupat which had been sealed were tied together and placed inside a pot filled with water to be soaked. All the rice-filled Sarung Ketupat were soaked in water for 2 hours.

Let's Boil Our Ketupat For Around 90 Minutes

Next, the pot of water filled with soaked Ketupat was boiled for at least 60 minutes (or 90 minutes depending on the types of rice grains used etc.) at high heat. Eating Ketupat during Hari Raya Aidilfitri without Rendang Ayam will be a shame, no? That's why my wife also cooked Rendang Ayam to complement our very first self-cooked Ketupats.

I really have to applaud my wife for dishing out such lip-smacking Rendang Ayam. It was spicy but just at the right level. We got to enjoy the Ketupats with the "flamed" Rendang Ayam which had been cooked to perfection, complete with succulent, tender chicken meat. Besides the toothsome Rendang Ayam, my wife also whipped out an equally mouth-watering Lontong for us to enjoy. From taste to texture, including the colour, our bowls of Lontong were unbelievably tasty and flavourful which went incredibly well with our fluffy Ketupats.

Nothing beats indulging in our self-made Ketupats together with the savoury Rendang Ayam and Lontong. I am grateful to have a wife who can cook like a world-class chef. Ha 😊 More importantly, I am truly thankful that she always takes the trouble to learn and prepare various different cuisines for our enjoyment.
