It would appear that with the Honor X8 series is being dissected again for all the wrong reasons. The X8a is the Honor's newest smartphone, released just six months after the X8 (in which several features were reduced to enable 5G connectivity). Honor has opted for MediaTek for its most recent chipset, the Helio G88, which was released in 2021 and was manufactured using 12-nanometer technology. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 was replaced by the 5G-capable 480 Plus, and the chip was manufactured using a 12-nanometer process. The battery capacity has also been reduced from 5,000mAh to 4,500mAh, however, this is at least 500mAh more than the original X8 LTE model. Honor's 22.5W SuperCharge rapid charging remains.

The display has been increased to 6.7 inches (up from 6.5 inches on the 5G variant), 1080p resolution (up from 720p), 90Hz refresh rate, and a cutout for the selfie camera. Honor claims that its bezels are the thinnest in the industry at just 1.1mm, however, it fails to mention that there is still a substantial chin at the bottom.

The main camera of the X8a, which has a 100MP sensor and f/1.9 aperture, is unquestionably the device's crowning achievement. In addition, there is a new ultra-wide camera (which also works as a depth sensor) with a resolution of 5MP, a 2MP macro camera, and a flash occupy the square camera bump. The selfie camera has 16 megapixels.

Once again, the Honor X8a is available in only one configuration with a price tag of RM999. This price entitles you to at least 8GB of RAM, up from 6GB on the X8 and X8 5G. As for storage capacity, it will remain the same at 128GB. Beginning this Saturday, February 11, the gadget will be available for purchase through Honor physical and online stores, the brand's official Shopee and Lazada sites, and authorized dealers countrywide. Early-birds purchases will be entitled to receive up to RM258 in free gifts, including a SuperCharge car charger and a 1+1-year warranty extension.

Other features include 4G connectivity (obviously), WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, a dual-SIM tray, and a fingerprint sensor on the side. The absence of a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage is a significant reduction compared to both X8 variants, as only 128GB of storage is included. The X8a comes preinstalled with Android 12 and MagicUI 6.1.

Honor claims the X8a smartphone is easy to hold because of its 7.48mm thickness and 179g weight. There are three colour options available: Cyan Lake, Titanium Silver, and Midnight Black.
