We have always known that Balenciaga is no stranger to peculiar shoe design but their latest one has truly caught everyone by surprise. Behold Balenciaga's Medieval Chavalier Derby shoes that take you back to the ages of dragons and dungeons. Nobody has expected the Spanish fashion giant to unleash this medieval "battle-ready" shoe and here we are looking at a pair that has been borrowed from the past.

Balenciaga's Medieval Dystopian Fall 2021

First spotted during the Dystopian Fall 2021 Campaign Video, Balenciaga's Medieval Chevaier Derby is crafted from leather which has been precisely cut using a laser. It is then coated and polished with "medieval" paint to give it its amazing armour-like finish. I like how shiny the shoes are, making them a definite head-turners should you wear these on the streets!

The small rivets have been reimagined, with the leather being moulded into spikes overlapping layers on the vamp to make the shoes look as if they have been hand-made by a blacksmith in the middle ages. To give this ultra-cool shoe its contemporary look, a square toe has been added. Interestingly, a black leather strap around the heel with the 1066 theme branding completes the look. I wonder why the strap is not polished to complement the whole package?

Apparently, as leaked by Instagrammer @myfacewheno_o-it was claimed that this medieval footwear is not really the most comfortable sneakers for you to put on. Then again, making the statement is the main idea here, no? Though no official statement has been released, Balenciaga's Medieval Chevalier Derby Shoes is rumoured to have a price tag of around US$2,650 (RM11,099) which is inclusive of tax. What do you think about this pair of shoes? I wonder if Balenciaga will now release a full suit of medieval armour.
