The wait is over and now we know what the academic calendar and school holidays will be in 2026 for next year's primary and secondary school students in Malaysia.

Academic Calendar and School Holidays 2026 For Malaysian Students

As usual, the calendar will be divided into two groups namely group A and group B which denote different states. Schools in group A will be from Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu which will see their schooling session for the year 2026 starts on the 11th of January 2026. Please refer to the enclosed tables for more information.

New School Term Starts on the 11th/12th of January 2026

Group B includes schools from Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Sabah Sarawak, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan, and Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya. Students from schools included in group B will start going to school on the 12nd of January 2026.

Term 1, Year 2026

• Start of school: 11 January 2026
• End of Term 1: 21 May 2026
• Total weeks of schooling: 18 weeks Mid-Term Break (Term 1): 20 March – 28 March 2026 (9 days)

Mid-Year Break:

• 22 May – 6 June 2026 (16 days)

Term 2, Year 2026

• School resumes: 7 June 2026
• End of schooling: 3 December 2026
• Total weeks of schooling: 25 weeks Mid-Term Break (Term 2): 28 August – 5 September 2026 (9 days)

End-of-Year Break 2026:

• 4 December – 31 December 2026 (28 days)

End-of-Year Break 2026:

• 5 December – 31 December 2026 (27 days)

Generally, the first or term holidays will start on the 20th or 21st of March and will last for days until the 28th of March 2026. So parents who want to go on a vacation with their next year during the school break can start planning now.

The mid-year school holidays will begin on the 22nd of 23rd of May 2026 until the 6th or 7th of June 2026, spanning 16 days. For the full list of school term holidays and schooling days for Malaysian students, please refer to the enclosed tables.

General School Holiday 2026 for Malaysian Students:

• 9 days (from 21-03-2026 to 29-03-2026)
• 16 days (from 23-05-2026 to 07-06-2026)
• 9 days (from 29-08-2026 to 06-09-2026)
• 27 days (from 5-12-2026 to 31-12-2026)
