Today is the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. So I would like to sincerely wish all the Muslims in this whole wide world, "Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Maaf zahir dan batin." Today is the day to be merry not only for the Muslims, but also for everyone in the world. They didn't say this festival is only for Muslims right? After 30 days of fasting, the Muslims celebrate the abstinence from food or anything that is prohibited during the Ramadhan. So how is your Syawal folks? Do you enjoy yourselves back in Kampung (Village)?
Apart from Hari Raya Korban, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is one of the biggest festival celebrated my Muslims worldwide. And do you know what is the most prominent symbol for Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Malaysia? It is non other than the must have Ketupat. Ketupat is a special dish which is made from rice that has been wrapped in a woven palm leaf pouch. Then these palm leaf pouches containing rice will be boiled. As the rice cooks, the rice grains will expand and fill up the palm leaf pouch and hence the rice will be compressed.
So have you had your Ketupat folks? Damn...I am salivating again. You see...ketupat is usually served with rendang (a type of dry meat curry) or sambal (super spicy, thick chilly paste). The other day I asked who will "reserve" some Ketupat for me...and guess what? My cousin who is residing in the Kampung kept a few for me. So I walloped all of them and...buuuurrrppp....I must tell you they are really delicious especially when served with chicken rendang and sambal.
