Brabus P900 Rocket Edition: The 900bhp G-Wagen Pickup That Refuses to Blend In

The Brabus P900 Rocket Edition is a 900bhp carbon-fibre G-Wagen pickup with dramatic styling, 24-inch wheels and supercar-rivalling performance.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is already about as discreet as a marching band in a library. Then Brabus arrived and decided it needed more power, more carbon fibre, bigger wheels and, for good measure, a pickup bed.

Meet the Brabus P900 Rocket Edition, a wild two-door? No, still a big, imposing G-Wagen-based pickup that turns the already outrageous W 465 Mercedes-AMG G 63 into something far more dramatic. Only 10 examples will be built worldwide, so spotting one in Los Angeles, Miami or anywhere else will be a proper automotive event.

The G-Wagen loses its back seat and gains a cargo bed

Brabus has completely reworked the standard SUV body. The enclosed rear section has been removed and replaced with an open cargo bed, giving the P900 a silhouette that’s part luxury SUV, part supercar and part high-end utility truck.

The body is covered in an exposed-carbon-fibre version of Brabus’s ROCKET EDITION WIDESTAR package. Red accents add a splash of colour against the dark carbon weave, while the enormous 24-inch BRABUS Monoblock II EVO wheels make the truck look ready to flatten the horizon.

Standout exterior details include:

  • Exposed carbon-fibre widebody panels
  • Bold red styling accents
  • A bespoke open cargo bed
  • Massive 24-inch Monoblock II EVO wheels
  • A stance that makes ordinary SUVs look rather shy

Practical? Perhaps. Subtle? Absolutely not.

A 900bhp twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet

The standard G 63’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 has been enlarged to 4.5 litres. Brabus has then turned up the aggression until the engine produces a mighty 900bhp, or 662kW.

Torque is even more outrageous. The engine develops a peak 922 lb-ft, equal to 1,250Nm. That figure is electronically restricted to 774 lb-ft to reduce stress on the drivetrain. Even with the limit in place, there’s enough muscle to make the rear cargo bed feel like a launch platform.

For comparison, the regular G 63 produces 577bhp. The P900 therefore adds an extra 323bhp to an SUV that was hardly short of performance in the first place.

Faster than it has any right to be

The P900 Rocket Edition reaches 62mph from rest in just 3.7 seconds. That’s seven-tenths quicker than the standard G 63’s official time.

Think about that for a moment. This is a tall, wide, heavily modified luxury pickup with a boxy body and huge wheels. Yet it accelerates with the sort of urgency usually associated with low-slung sports cars.

Its electronically limited top speed is 149mph, or 240km/h.

Fuel economy? That’s not really the point

A 900bhp V8-powered pickup was never going to sip fuel like a city hatchback. The P900 records combined consumption of 17.3 litres per 100 kilometres, with carbon dioxide emissions of 393g/km.

Those numbers won’t trouble its intended buyers too much. The P900 is about theatre, exclusivity and arriving somewhere with the automotive equivalent of a spotlight following you down the road.

Only 10 will exist, after all. If you’re going to build an outrageously expensive, carbon-clad G-Wagen pickup, you might as well make sure nobody mistakes it for the one parked next door.

The ultimate attention-seeking G-Wagen?

The Brabus P900 Rocket Edition takes every familiar G-Class ingredient and turns the dial to maximum:

  • More power
  • More noise
  • More carbon fibre
  • More width
  • More wheel
  • More attitude

It’s part performance machine, part collector’s item and part rolling declaration that ordinary luxury SUVs simply won’t do. Whether it’s being driven through Miami, Los Angeles or somewhere with considerably narrower roads, the P900 is guaranteed to make an entrance.

Would you take the 900bhp Brabus pickup over a standard Mercedes-AMG G 63? Share your verdict: outrageous masterpiece or spectacular excess?
