Adele has returned to say hello and what a HELLO she has delivered huh! Four years ago, I got to know her haunting voice through Rolling In The Deep. Back then we witnessed how her powerful vocal and range of tones have shook the music industry. After that she has settled down and has become a mother during her absence. Fast forward October 2015 and the Queen of Voice is again reverberating our radio stations with her melodiously eerie Hello. So yeah~Hie! And welcome back Adele. :)
Adele personally said this on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show: "I felt all of us were moving on, and it's not about ex-relationship, a love relationship, it's about my relationship with everyone that I love. It's not that we have fallen out, we've all got our lives going on and I needed to write the song they would all hear it, because I'm not in touch with them." Well said Adele! I believe the whole song symbolizes how our lives have changed and how we have grown up. :)
Honestly I believe Adele's Hello is one heck of a good comeback song. The staggering 469,338,519 Youtube Views so far at the time of this writing (24th November 2015) is enough to tell you how successful Hello is. Goodness. So will this Hello surpasses Gangnam Style's current 2.5 billion youtube views? Ha :D Then again I really love this song because it makes me feel mortal. I can just lay down on my bed and listen to Hello again and again. It makes me ponder about all those people who used to be around when I was younger. Period.
Hello!
"Hello" is co-written by Adele and her producer, Greg Kurstin and it's a piano ballad which soulfully enveloping both the raw emotions of nostalgia and remorse. Now how many singers (real singers) can actually sing with just the piano alone? So good is Hello that it becomes the number 1# hit in 28 countries and recorded the biggest opening week sales since 2012. Hello has gone one step further to break several records which includes the first song with over 1 million digital sales in one week alone. Hello! Who says piracy has taken away singers' hardwork? Then again you have to be a (real) good singer to achieve all these amazing feats.
Hello from the other side.
The simple MTV that was produced to accompany Hello has been equally impressive in garnering views. Hello shattered Vevo Record with a whopping 27.7 million views within 24 hours. Taylor Swift's fancy Bad Blood held the previous record with 20.1 million views within the same span of time. Besides, Adele's Hello also became the fastest MTV to hit the 100 million views milestone which was previously held by Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball. So what do all these tell you? FACT 1#: You don't have to have a lot of girls with leather-tight suits shooting around in your MTV. FACT 2#: You don't have to be a slut like Miley Cyrus to get attention and views on youtube. FACT 3#: It's all about being a real singer who can SING whimsically. Hello?
I must have called a thousand times...
It was obvious that Hello revolves around the theme of regret and many see it as a sequel to her single "Someone Like You". Then again it is even deeper than Someone Like You. This somewhat conversational Hello talks about "failed relationships" which could have ranged from family members, friends and of course lovers. So basically Hello is about reminiscing about those who used to be in your lives. To people who had left footprints in your heart.
Adele's "Hello" Lyrics
Hello, it's me
I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing
Hello, can you hear me?
I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I've forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet
There's such a difference between us
And a million miles
Hello from the other side
I must've called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly doesn't tear you apart
Anymore
Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of me to talk about myself, I'm sorry
I hope that you're well
Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happened?
It's no secret that the both of us
Are running out of time
So hello from the other side
I must've called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly doesn't tear you apart
Anymore, ooooohh
Anymore, ooooohh
Anymore, ooooohh
Anymore, anymore
Hello from the other side
I must've called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly doesn't tear you apart
Anymore
